Of St. Paul

Passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2017 with his sons at his side. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Margo; his adoring son, Vernon; parents, Catherine and Matthew Schmit; brothers, George and Jack; and sister, Helen. Leo is survived by his sons, Lawrence (Judy) and Alan (Catherine); daughter-in-law, Julie; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; brother, Ralph; and many nieces and nephews. Passed away peacefully on May 7th, 2017 with his sons at his side. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Margo; his adoring son, Vernon; parents, Catherine and Matthew Schmit; brothers, George and Jack; and sister, Helen. Leo is survived by his sons, Lawrence (Judy) and Alan (Catherine); daughter-in-law, Julie; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; brother, Ralph; and many nieces and nephews. For over 50 years, Leo worked at the St. Paul Pioneer Press/Dispatch as a mailer. Leo enjoyed pheasant hunting with his brothers and buddies in Morgan, MN. For many years, Leo and his family vacationed and fished on Mille Lacs Lake. He enjoyed watching sports and playing football while at Harding High School. Leo was a very proud WWII veteran, serving with the artillery in the U.S. Army while in England, France, and Germany. Leo enjoyed traveling to Milwaukee to visit with his brother, Ralph; often the two of them stopped at the casino along the way. Leo was an active member of the Men's Club at the Church of St. Pascal's serving on the board for many years. He enjoyed working at the fish fry's, selling Christmas trees and making booya. Leo loved his family and was a wonderful father, grandfather, and brother. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be Monday, May 15 from 4-7pm at Wulff Funeral Home, 1485 White Bear Ave, St. Paul. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, May 16 at 10:30am with visitation one hour prior at the Church of St. Pascal Baylon, White Bear Ave and 3rd St., St. Paul. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to The Men's Club of St. Pascal Baylon.
